Soldatenkörper im Gaskrieg: Trauma, Siechtum, Rentennot, 1915-1933

The paper will examine the fate of the soldiers’ bodies in gas warfare 1914/15-1918, the physical and mental traumatisation of the troupes during and after the gas attacks as well as the long-term effects in the years hence. Special emphasis will be put on the problem of malingering, for which the German soldiers were often reproached without justification. Such reproaches, strongly resented by the victims, often had repercussions for their pensions.
